The Old Sculptor
Chisel in one hand Hammer on the other With shivering fingers He chips and chisels.
Contours change Features emerge He pauses and gazes At the half-done work.
B’tween the past and the present An aeon has passed Yet the sculpture, glimmers not Nor pines for perfection
Hands numb, bleached in shame At the present , helpless he stares.
